Thaw’s career encompasses both fashion and art direction and in house studio design. She has held senior creative positions at Chloé and Vanessa Bruno, bringing a nuanced understanding of femininity into the collections and the visual campaigns.
Her eye for the zeitgeist was initially fine-tuned working for fashion and style titles. The Central St Martin's graduate began her journey in magazines as stylist assistant to Karl Templer at the Face and Anna Harvey at British Vogue and then established her own career as a contributing fashion editor directing shoots for the Face. Her narrative-rich stories challenged stereotypes of beauty and received notions of glamour. She worked with supermodels including Kristen McMenamy, Kate Moss and Karen Elson bringing their individuality and chameleon characters to the fore in shoots with visionary lensmen of that era.
Moving to Paris in the early oughts, Thaw worked for the breakthrough contemporary brand Vanessa Bruno. As Artistic Director, she was instrumental in building the brand into a commercial powerhouse with a network of stores and oversaw the brand's poetic and inspirational campaigns. Her passion for authentic beauty saw her developing collections from A-Z; from colour cards, to RTW and accessories design through to brand identity and the now iconic collectors’ catalogues that she conceived with photographer, Mark Borthwick. She interpolated brand values through every touch point, creating a cohesive aspirational universe.
Headhunted by Chloé, she joined the quintessentially Parisian house in 2008 as Deputy Creative Director. Here she remained for the next three years. Thaw’s aestheticism, intuitive sense of the Chloé woman and her deep talent for concept, colour and fabrication was instrumental in defining the new era Chloé girl. It was also a fresh chapter for the Richemont-owned business and Thaw helped spearhead change with the launch of pre collections and RTW collections. Directing her visionary eye for detail and her skill for depth of research, Thaw contributed towards the creation of the colour cards and creative product development for pre collections, RTW collections and accessories.
In the last ten years, Thaw has been on an adjacent journey where she prioritised raising her daughter as a single mother and dedicated herself to deep inner work, healing, and study. She has emerged from this experience enriched and strengthened, but more importantly, she feels moved and inspired to create from a renewed sense of self, which has expanded both her vision and reach.
Thus, in 2024 Thaw launched This Other Eden, a creative design and branding consultancy specializing in the research and development of products with purpose.
“Beauty is a feeling first,” says Thaw.
